Indeed, this could change everything.

Indeed, this could change everything. Trust me - it will. (Image courtesy of Apple)

I didn’t jump all over posting anything a few weeks back after the keynote address announcing Apple’s new iPad, but I’ve been chewing on it ever since. Indeed, I believe that this could change everything. And, I do mean everything. A decade ago I was entirely convinced that as HTML standards became more refined, and as Java began to pick up steam as an open standard, that the “Web” would become the center of the universe. I mean, I was truly convinced that everything we used to do via atoms could & would be done faster, more efficiently, more enjoyably and more sustainably on the Web as bits. I also believed that we’d eventually be able to watch any TV show, movie or home made documentary ever made…

Well, I was kinda right…

I love still photography. I’ve always strived to make simple, stunning images that could stand on their own. Over the course of 20 years that has always meant that I tried to imagine my images as ads in a magazine, newspaper, billboard, or some such. Still, it’s the still imagery that keeps me going, although I continually have yearnings to work on “moving pictures”.

I knew in the early ’90s that all photography would be digital someday. I had my first photo posted on the Web in 1996, and have been hooked ever since. What’s most exciting about the use of my photography on the Web is the new, creative ways clients use it. Just check out what Joel Hallberg from Balance Design whipped up for the holidays. It’s an e-card that’s based on a composite image of a series of studio portraits I did for Joel, his SO Cristina, and her son Saúl.

We’ve done composite images like this before for clients – ones that have been printed as big as 8 feet long for trade show displays, which is kinda stunning in itself. But, I think I actually prefer this version by Joel far better. It combines the best of still photography & animation into one motion mapped stage.

I have some interesting plans for this that I’ll post over at noir early next year.
